Can't beat 4am veggie food after a night of dancing :) Much better than other late-late-night alternatives! I avoid it during busy times though; don't like waiting in line. - Leanne , posted 05/13/08 |

Any one who is looking for a huge portion of vegetarian delights at a reasonable price need not look any further than Vancouver's "The Naam" restaurant. If you go on the right night, enjoy the live music with your tasty food. The organic blueberry pie is AWESOME!!! - Unsubscribed , posted 02/06/07 |

Service may be slow, but the food is great! Grab a golden dragon bowl in the middle of the night when the crowds are gone and be happy. - philip , posted 11/04/06 |

I used to live a block away when I was student, and loved going there for non-stop coffee and veg food at all hours during my all-nighters. . . got me many an "A" on my exams. . .we used to jokingly call it "the kitchen". . . our motto was simple (created by a 7 year old): "Never go to the Naam when you're hungry" (and its even better if you get to know the schedule so you can go when the better cooks are working) but for 3 am nightcaps, you can't beat the Tahi Gado Salad, and I beleive this is the only place in Van to serve a Tempeh Rueben (although they could serve it with kraut, and get better tempeh, at least they have it) - artemis , posted 03/17/06 |

Wish there was another one next door so the lineups were less..... - Unsubscribed , posted 12/22/05 |

The Nam is so "hit & miss", the quality of the dish changes, the speed in which it arrives at your table changes. Everything about this "trendy" (yes I did mean trendy, even vegans and cool hippies follow trends if it suits them) restaurant is constantly changing. The one thing that you know you will get all the time though is an overly laid-back attitude from the servers and food that is unspectacular. I think that if there were a more choices for vegans in this city this place would go under. I have often waited in a line-up at the door for several moments before even being acknowledged by a server or staff member. It’s one thing to be super busy and not be able to seat everyone quickly (I’ve been a server, I know what it’s like) but it’s another thing to not even glance up at the line-up or simply flash a nod or smile that says “I see you, I’ll get to you as soon as I can. The NAM takes their customers for granted like a lot of little “hot spots” in this city. As long as we keep lining up though, it will stay them same. I would avoid this place unless you have a ton of free time or simply want to earn coolness points be seen in the “hip” vegan crowd. Personally, when I am really hungry nothing else matters to me except quick service and a good meal. - noname , posted 09/15/05 |

After awhile the food all starts to taste the same. It's one of the last old buildings on 4th Ave though and has great old hippy ambience. - Sun Rae , posted 08/24/05 |

There are all sorts of Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants coming up so I feel (although I really love the Naam) that service and quality needs to be upgraded. That said 3 a.min the morning you just got out of a smoking hot show and want to fill up with good nutritous food it really is the only place to go other than home !! Good can always be better though and they have a reputation for crap service . It really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for !! - Byron , posted 04/30/05 |

Literally. The quality of the dining experience depends totally on what time of day or night you go. During peak hours, expect a long, cramped wait in the foyer or out on the street. The latter can be unpleasant with the occasional presence of street people accosting you. During one late Saturday afternoon wait outside I was hit on by a couple in a clear state of withdrawal, who yelled insults at me when I declined their kind offer to liberate me of my cash. So the street-level ambience may not be what you want before your healthy vegan dining experience lol. During peak hours, service is only average. Some dishes arrive undercooked - like the sesame fries with the burger platters. An alternative to that bland miso sauce that accompanies the sesame fries would be cool. Order the salads or other raw dishes. When it's busy, you're likely to wind up at one of those tiny tables with chairs that have uneven legs. The live music sometimes feels like it's there to make you want to hurry up, eat, pay your bill & leave. The place is packed during peak hours & already quite noisy. When I've been there & live music's been up, it tended to be repetitive - solo musicians playing the same riff on their instrument for like 20 minutes. The acoustics are not great, & nobody goes for the music, they go to enjoy their meal & socialize. You want to be able to hear one another. This is difficult during the live music, which is again as much a question of acoustics as it is of volume. During off peak hours you'll enjoy a totally different dining experience. No prolonged wait in the lineup. More spacious, comfortable seating. Quieter, more relaxed vibe. Dishes prepared with care. If you can bypass the breakfast rush, the breakfasts are awesome. Recommend the enchiladas. Fave dish: California Salad Open 24 hours, a favored establishment among night owls. At 3AM, beats most alternatives in Vancouver. - Panphilia , posted 04/29/05 |
