THE WORST SMOOTHIES IN THE WORLD CAN BE FOUND AT BREAD AND GARDEN!!!1
Today I went to the Bread and Garden of 13th in North Vancouver. My aunt and I ordered two smoothies, thinking they would calm down our thirst. However, we ended up paying 8 dollars plus tax for two disgusting drinks that were just crushed ice and artificial flavor!!!! The worst thing is that I asked the waitress if the smoothies were yogurt-based and she said yes. What piece of lie!!!! I have never tasted such a horrible drink. Neither my aunt nor I could drink it, but we brought it home, thinking someone else would like it Another family member had a few sips and got sick!!!! I regret not having complained right there at that moment and asked for my money back. I tried to do it on their webpage, but it didn't work. THey are probably used to unhappy customers and disabled the "contact" button. THEy should be honest and call it by its name, and not call it smoothie. THey should also stop lying about their supposedly "home style" food. That is the biggest lie ever. - Alexandra Artunduaga , posted 02/26/07

Even with the "New Look" it's lame.
The Bread Garden is definitely not like it used to be. In the early 90’s it was really popular because it was one of the first restaurants of its kind (fast food that is wholesome and re-heated) it was a novelty and a neat experience to go to one. Plus, they were everywhere so it was really easy to grab something in your neighborhood. The new renovations make the atmosphere way “cooler” then it used to be though. I love the tables and slick black chairs. The style is a nice upgrade…but contrary to popular belief that people in Vancouver solely care about image, the quality of foods and the prices matter too. This is where Bread Garden gets a failing grade. The food (even though it looks fancy) tastes no different then the “left-overs” you pull out of your buddy’s parent’s house fridge on the weekend. The prices leave you feeling ripped-off every time you consume one of their re-heated “cardboard tasting” entrées. One of the many examples of this; I was mislead to think that their pudding would satisfy my rich home-made creamy chocolate craving because it was displayed in a cute sundae cup with curly scrumptious looking Belgian chocolate shavings sprinkles “just-so” on top. It also had a ridiculous price so I thought “this will be awesome” at that price-- needless to say the pudding sucked balls and tasted no different then a snack-pack I could have stolen from my kid-brother’s lunch bag. Some times pretty presentation doesn’t make the food more appetizing it just ends up being misleading and you feel more ripped off when you are done. Bread Garden is a perfect example of this. Don’t be sucked in. - noname , posted 09/15/05

Unappetizing.
Around a year ago I made a mission to go to a Bread Garden because they were everywhere and I had never tried it.
My date and I went in and after at least 10 minutes of browsing, left without making a purchase. Nothing there even tickled my fancy, and the prices were so atrocious. Perhaps it simply wasen't my thing, but it sure didn't look yummy... - Unsubscribed , posted 06/10/05

I agree!
What is a Bread Garden? It's a little cafeteria where you buy food over the counter. The food is ready-made; the job of the cashier is just to reach into the display, grab the dish and heat it up in the microwave. The various casserole dishes, wraps and whatnot are tiny and way overpriced.

On the coffee and muffin side, nothing special. You can get bad coffee and a stale muffin anywhere, and BG is more of the same.

My recommendation: if you want ready-to-eat food just go the deli section of a supermarket. Some even have little dining areas where you can sit at the table and consume your purchase without leaving the store.
