1 bdrm in Creative Household in East Van available April 1st.
We've had an excellent long-term painter roomie, and then a lovely short-term musician roomie... Are you a relaxed, artsy creative type of person who will fill this space?
Our home is just a few blocks east of Fraser and E 33rd Avenue, with easy access to the 8, 25, 41 and 43 buses, a bit of a stroll to the 22 on Knight St., and mere moments from the bike routes on 37th, Windsor, or Ontario.
We have the main/upstairs floor, with the (unfurnished) middle-sized of the three bedrooms becoming available on April 1. There is a large walk-in closet and a clothes closet right beside the bedroom door, and there is a fair amount of storage available in the ‘studio’ (an enclosed patio) and the ‘garage’ (storage, laundry and bike room located below). The house has one and a half bathrooms, a well-lit kitchen and living room, and a front yard ready for any flower gardening desires you may have! (there is a large vegetable garden in the back tha twe are invited to share as well).
Rent is $450 per month, which doesn’t include utilities. Hydro and gas wind up being around $50-6o a month in winter, $15ish in the summer, and you can chip in for the new internet service once we see the bills. We both have our own cell phones rather than a shared house line.
We are: a female, mid-30s, self-employed doing work with hoops, knitting, waterpolo and more (which may explain the large piles of yarn and hula-hoop-making materials in the living room) and a male, early 30s, working as a youth minister and singer/songwriter (which explains the exuberant vocalizing to be heard from his room)
Musical? We have a digital piano and several guitars sharing space in the living room, and you are welcome to add to the mix or share our instruments.
Artistic? The ‘studio’ in the back is currently mostly used for storage, but it could certainly be re-organized to become a functional painting/scuplting/dyeing/___? space, if you enjoy working in a weather-influenced room (hot in the summer, cold in the winter, damp in the rain).. and we have wipe-able flooring, so semi-messy projects are welcome in the living room, too!
In general, we’re pretty relaxed about life and living, willing to have a good time with a friend or two over to socialize on occasion, though huge parties are a rare thing.
You are.. you! Any age, gender, race, religion, orientation, and most lifestyle choices welcome (it would be great if you find life as interesting and exciting as we do, without a need for illicit substances) but please note that the house was not designed with wheelchairs or other access-challenges in mind. To be a good fit with us, you should be easy-going, with a reliable income or student loan or a decent nest-egg to tide you over if you are venturing into self-employment; a non-smoker without pets (he’s allergic, sorry!); willing to work with us and the people in the basement about the volume of music and conversations through the day (if work is happening at home) and night (the folks downstairs go to bed around 11pm) and excited about sharing our space in our lovely East Van neighbourhood!
Please get in touch if you’re interested in seeing the space :)
