Performers:
Anusha Fernando: Anusha Fernando is the artistic director of Shakti Dance Society. Shakti Dance promotes Bharata Natyam Indian Classical Dance through teaching, performing and production. The society focuses on both traditional training as well as creating works that illuminate the creative potential of the form. Anusha has performed across Canada. For her dedication to the form, Anusha has received awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, City of Vancouver and Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. Along with her solo concerts, she has worked on several interdisciplinary productions including Tales from the Ramayana, which was nominated for 5 Jessie awards, and Cyberaj.
Neeraja Aptikar: Neeraja is a gifted Classical Indian vocalist. Her sweet and masterful voice has delighted and inspired listeners throughout India and Canada.
Cassius Khan: Cassius Khan is a master performer and exponent of Ghazal Gayaki, an important genre of Indian classical singing. He is a disciple of the late Malika e Tarranum Mushtari Begum and Tabla master Ustad Rukhsar Ali. Khan has performed extensively around the world. He has has collaborated on 13 albums with many world class musicians. He also performs extensively with giants including Grammy Award winning artist, Mohan Veena exponent Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and his son Satvick Veena-ist Salil Bhatt. Khan has students around the world who learn Ghazal singing and Tabla playing from him. He teaches private and group classes in Kitsilano, New Westminster and Western Canada. Accompanied by Amika Kushwaha on Harmonium, and Monica Koodoo on the Tanmandal.
